Benefits

When it comes to benefits, SourceMedia Group is refreshingly old-fashioned. While other companies are shrinking medical, retirement, and other so-called “extra,” benefits, the family-owned SourceMedia Group considers benefits essential to your well-being. So when we say “comprehensive benefits package,” we really mean it. Some benefits start asap, others start throughout the first year of employment. Even part-timers can qualify for these rewards.

Health, dental, even vision

We’re talking quality, cost-effective health and dental care benefits for you and your family. The specifics?

  • Coverage is offered to benefit-eligible employees working at least 30 hours per week and starts the first of the month following one full month of employment.
  • Employees who work at least 20 hours per week are eligible for benefits the first quarter after working 1,000 hours during a 12-month period.
  • The health plans include vision benefits, dental plan includes orthodontia.

We also offer, at no cost, an employee assistance program to help with personal, family or work related challenges. This program has professional counselors available for you 24 hours per day.

Saving for The Golden Years

Allow us to brag a bit about our renowned retirement savings plan. It’s our ESOP PLUS (Employees’ Stock Ownership and 401(k) Savings Plan), a program that lets you build a rock solid foundation for your retirement. When we say solid, let’s just say the word “ESOP” around here makes people smile. It works like this: we make annual contributions in common stock to your ESOP account and we match your voluntary contributions to your 401(k) Savings Plan. This way you get to share in the success of the company. While other employers average about 4% of pay for a company contribution each year, we have been blowing the lid off of the average mark by matching a maximum of 3% of your 401(k) contribution plus historically at least 4% annually for an ESOP allocation – if you’ve done the math – that’s 7% of salary put in your retirement account each year on top of your personal 401(k) contributions.

Time away to play

All work and no play makes for stressed employees. We want you to relax — and have a life! SourceMedia employees are actually encouraged to use their vacation time so they can, well, have a life.

  • Employees working at least 30 hours per week begin earning vacation from their date of hire and are eligible to start using the vacation benefit the first of the month following one full month of employment.
  • Part-time (20 hours per week) employees become eligible for vacation at the beginning of the calendar quarter after working 1,000 hours within a 12 month period.

We observe six holidays here plus a float holiday for benefit-eligible employees. The float holiday is one day off of the employee’s choosing. There is no waiting period for this benefit.

Sick time is available to benefit-eligible employees to care for themselves or family member in case of injury or illness.

After one full year of employment, we provide our full-time employees short and long term disability benefits at no charge.

Other employee benefits

Life Insurance benefit

OK. No one likes to think about this, so we’ll do it for you. You get a term life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment plan with coverage equal to your annual salary when you become benefit eligible. Enough said.

Health Savings and Flexible Spending Account Plans

Flexible spending accounts are offered to benefit-eligible employees to use pre-tax dollars for reimbursement of items and services for dependent care expenses or you can choose either a Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account for reimbursement of out of pocket medical expenses. Whew. Long sentence that translates to “you pay less to Uncle Sam.”

Fitness and Wellness Program

We want you to be fit as a fiddle, whatever that means. We offer you a quick and painless personal health risk assessment AND a cash incentive when you reach certain wellness goals. This program includes giving you corporate rates to local multiple fitness centers, which can be payroll deducted.

Discounts

All employees are eligible for a deeply discounted subscription to The Gazette and discounts on classified advertising (in case you want to buy, sell or find something) and Milestones space (for showing off your life’s memorable moments).

Free Parking

Parking is provided free to all employees. Since most of the SourceMedia offices are located downtown, that’s free DOWNTOWN parking. Not a bad perk, eh?

Massages

Yes, we said massages. Once a month, for a small fee, a massage therapist takes the weight off our shoulders.

Employee Service Center

Get your stamps here, drop off your dry cleaning, or pick up the birthday card you kept forgetting (whoops) for mom. We’ve got you and your busy self covered.
